SDG 3 – Good health and well-being

SDG 3 ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages’ focuses on preventing disease and preventable deaths, and boosting health and well-being, by improving access to health care services, promoting healthy lifestyles, and ensuring a healthy and safe environment for all.

In the updated NDC submissions, 3% of activities addressed Goal 3 compared with 3% in the first NDC submissions. In the first NDCs, countries were prioritising targets '3.8 Access to universal health care and medicines' (49%) and '3.3 End epidemics and communicable diseases' (26%), linking these to 'Climate-induced health risks prevention' (38%), 'Access to health care/services' (20%) and 'Communicable diseases prevention' (18%) as key strategies for climate action. In the updated NDCs, countries are prioritising targets '3.3 End epidemics and communicable diseases' (36%) and '3.8 Access to universal health care and medicines' (24%), linking these to 'Climate-induced health risks prevention' (30%) 'Contingency health strategy development' (22%) and 'Communicable diseases prevention' (14%) as key strategies for climate action.

Regarding first NDC submissions, activities related to this Goal are prioritising adaptation with 96% of the activities, while 2% focus on mitigation. Meanwhile, for updated NDC submissions 90% prioritise adaptation and 3% mitigation. The share of quantified activities has increased from 5% in the first NDCs to 11% in the updated NDC submissions.
