Tonga

The first NDC submission of Tonga contributes the most to SDG 7 'Affordable and Clean Energy' (21%) and SDG 15 'Life on Land' (21%). For SDG 7 the highest contributions relate to Target '7.2 Increase share of renewable energy' (55%) and Target '7.3 Double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency' (27%). Here, the main climate actions are related to 'Clean and renewable energy' (28%) and 'Transition from fossil-fuels base energy' (22%). For SDG 15 the highest contributions relate to Target '15.2 Promote sustainable forest management and expansion and halt deforestation' (64%) and Target '15.3 Restore degraded land and combat desertification' (18%). Here, the main climate actions are related to 'Deforestation prevention' (40%) and 'Afforestation' (20%).

The updated NDC submission of Tonga contributes highly, among others, to SDG 7 'Affordable and Clean Energy' (25%) and SDG 14 'Life below Water' (25%). For SDG 7 contributions relate to Target '7.2 Increase share of renewable energy' (50%) and Target '7.3 Double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency' (50%). Here, some of the main climate actions are related to 'Off-grid and smart-grid systems' (13%) and 'Efficient appliances' (13%). For SDG 14 the highest contributions relate to Target '14.4 Regulate harvesting, end overfishing and restore fish stocks' (29%) and Target '14.6 Eliminate unsustainable subsidies to regulate overfishing' (29%). Here, some of the main climate actions are related to 'Resilience of the fishery sector' (40%) and 'Sustainable fishery management and fishing techniques' (20%).
