NDC-SDG Connections: connecting climate action to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Analyse and compare how climate actions formulated in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) correspond to each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Updated Nationally Determined Contributions show increasing connections between climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Countries’ updated NDCs present a larger number of Climate Actions across a wide range of SDGs. Social SDGs now have a better coverage.
Note: NDC-SDG Connections includes 169 first submissions and 118 updated submissions. New submissions are added regularly. See more in the notifications.

NDC-SDG Connections is a joint initiative of the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI).
In 2015, all United Nations member states agreed to adopt the 2030 Agenda, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets, aiming to eliminate poverty and set the world on a path to a sustainable future. In the same year, countries unanimously adopted the Paris Agreement at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Through the Paris Agreement, countries committed to limit the increase in global average temperature to “well below 2°C” compared to pre-industrial levels and to “pursue efforts” to limit the increase to 1.5°C and to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience.
The aim of this joint initiative by the Stockholm Environment Institute and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability is to reveal the connections between climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals.
To do so, this tool shows how activities set out in countries’ climate action plans, so called Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), go beyond climate change mitigation and adaptation, encompassing a broad scope of sustainable development.
By visualising connections between the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement this initiative supports efforts to maximise synergies and minimise trade-offs between climate change and sustainable development. Improved policy coherence at the global level is a prerequisite for coherent implementation at the national level.
